Izhevsk Mosin Nagant 91/30 PU Sniper Rifle w/ Matching Bayonet * All-Matching #'s Except Ring-Mount Assembly Between the Base & Scope *
Description: This is a WW2 1943-production Soviet Military-issue Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 "P.U. Sniper" rifle from the Izhevsk Arsenal, complete with the original serial-numbered matching bayonet and original WW2 military-issue leather scope caps. This WW2 rifle is all factory-stamped and numbers-matching except for the scope mount assembly with the rings on it, which connects the scope to the base attached to the side of the receiver. This mount assembly is an original WW2-production Russian Army-issued factory PU Scope mount that is numbered with the scope's correct serial number, but not the correct serial of the rifle. The scope itself is serial number "72900", which is electro-penciled at the bottom of the outside face of the mount assembly, just below the original rifle's serial number that this scope and mount were first fit to. So, this mount and rings assembly has been with this scope since the very beginning, but it was fit to a Mosin 91/30 P.U. sniper rifle serial-number "rn6300". All of the other numbered parts, including even the bayonet, are both factory-original and stamped-matching to this gun, not force-matched with an electro-pencil. As you can see in the pictures, the flatter areas that carry the serial number have never been ground-off and/or buffed, and then re-stamped with matching serial number like 98% of these 91/30 P.U. snipers you normally see. These serial numbers are THE original factory-applied stamped serial numbers, including the one on the bolt and the floorplate (the 2 most common re-numbered parts on these rifles). Also of great importance, all of the major factory markings are still visible as-are most of the small little inspection marks, however many of the markings were poorly-struck or hand-stamped on a curved surface, so they are not 100% complete. These poor stamping practices by the Russian Inspector's lasted thru WW2 and for quite a few years afterwards as well. One of the most important markings in this case, which indicate / verify that it is an original P.U. sniper model is a circled "C" stamped on the barrel shank in the upper right or left quadrant of the area visible between the receiver and the rear sight. This circled "C" was what Izhevsk Arsenal used for the entire production-run of P.U. sniping rifles they made, while Tula used the two letters "C H". This rifle has a very poorly-struck "circle C" at the upper right of the receiver ring, the proper area for this year of production. As you can see from the pictures, this Mosin sniper is VERY handsome and exceptionally clean. All of the factory blue finish is in excellent condition, showing only some extremely minor spots of finish wear or handling marks that do not stand-out unless you are doing a very close inspection of the rifle. What little finish wear there is on the rifle is mainly near the muzzle from the bayonet being mounted. As mentioned earlier, the bayonet is in excellent condition as well and is serial-numbered MATCHING to the rifle. The matching serial on the bayonet is factory-stamped and original rather than a re-numbered or electro penciled numbered applied post war. There is no question that this bayonet has been with this rifle since it left the factory in 1943! The original bolt, which is in-the-white, is bright and clean and free from any pitting or staining. The bent bolt handle is 100% factory original and NOT a post-war modifed bent handle. It is also the correct type and shape for an Izhevsk-made rifle, as the two factories that made these Mosin PU sniper rifles during WW2 had bent bolts that were unique to them. The bore in this Mosin is in excellent condition from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle. The bore is like-new and as shiny as it gets for a WW2 Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30, and the rifling is strong with sharp edges and smooth lands and grooves. There is no pitting, visible erosion, or damage of any kind visible. This would have been a hand-picked barrel that tested the most accurate out of a batch of barrels, and given the like-new bore, it should still be just as accurate now as it was in 1943. The stock set on this Mosin is also in excellent condition and the original WW2 stock that this rifle was shipped with. The stock set has no cracks or repairs in it, the handguards and stock match each other perfectly, and the slots for the sling are the right type. The slot in the butt is missing the piece of metal that would have been on the bottom but the top sling slot still has it. This is very common, and this is why it was redesigned post-WW2 to surround the opening on either side and line the slot completely. If it had gone thru an arsenal rebuild the later type would have been fit to it. Both barrel bands are in great shape, as-is the original steel buttplate, the two nose caps, the barrel band springs, and the recoil lug. The original cartouches are still visible on the buttstock, as are a number of little proofs/inspection stamps that are all over the stock set in various places.
