Scarce 2004 Mfg. Anschutz Model 1502 Rifle in .17 Mach 2 Caliber w/ Factory Styrofoam Box
Description: This is a beautiful and scarce, 2004-manufacture Anschutz Model 1502 bolt-action repeating rifle in the very hard-to-find chambering of Hornady .17 Mach 2, complete with it's original styrofoam box, manuals, and plastic shipping bags. This Anschutz Model 1502 features a gloss blue factory finish, a satin finished and checkered Walnut stock with factory-installed sling swivel studs, a 5rd detachable magazine, a 23" inch medium heavy match-grade barrel, a grooved AND drilled and tapped receiver for optics mounting, NO iron sights, a right-side receiver-mounted mounted safety lever, and a factory-installed fully-adjustable match-quality single-stage target trigger. This rifle came out the same year that the diminutive Hornady .17 Mach 2 cartridge was introduced in 2004. The .17 Hornady Mach 2, also known as ".17 HM2", is a very-cool, yet very-small rimfire cartridge that was created by Hornady in 2004, by taking a .22 LR cartridge and necking it down to hold a much smaller and lighter .17 caliber bullet. With most commercial .22 Long Rifle High-Velocity cartridges made today launching a 30 to 40 grain bullet between 1000 and 1300 fps, the .17 Mach 2's smaller diameter and lighter 17 to 20 grain bullet travels at almost double the speed reaching 2100 FPS or better. This higher velocity rimfire cartridge thus has a much-flatter trajectory out to about 175 yards, where the super-light bullet's inertia fizzles out more rapidly, and is more prone to wind-drift then the 30 and 40 grain bullets in most .22 HV LR rounds. Anything inside 175 yards however, the .17 Mach 2 rimfire cartridge is far superior to the .22 LR cartridge. This Anschutz Model 1502 was designed and built to maximize the .17 Mach 2 cartridge's capability, and it does so beautifully. This rifle is a like a laser gun well past 100 yards, the significantly flatter trajectory allowing competent small game hunters to easily make head shots on small game that are neither easy nor practical if using a rifle in .22 Long Rifle. Despite using a much smaller and lighter .17 caliber bullet, the much higher velocity (nearly double in many cases) of the .17 Mach 2 cartridge over the much heavier but slower .22 LR cartridge makes them almost identical in terms of the energy carried by the bullet at 100 yards, with the .17 HM2 producing about 88 foot pounds of knock-down power, versus 92 foot pounds of knock-down power for the .22 LR. Anywhere inside of 100 yards, the .17 Mach 2 easily outperforms even the best high-velocity 22 LR cartridges in terms of speed, energy, and accuracy/trajectory. The superiority of the .17 Mach 2 rimfire cartridge, combined with the absolutely phenomenal design, engineering, and fit and finish of this Anschutz Model 1502, makes it one of the best, if not THE very best factory-made, bolt-action repeating-rifle a person could own chambered in the Hornady .17 Mach 2 cartridge. Because of the greater commercial success of the larger and faster .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire cartridge, which was introduced 2 years prior to the .17 HM2 in 2002, and which was created by necking-down .22 WMR brass to accept a .17 caliber bullet, the .17 HM2 was fated to play second fiddle to the .17 HMR cartridge from the start. It was because of this fact that there was not a large number of rifles or handguns designed or made that were chambered in the .17 Mach 2 by the major gun makers, and out of those that did, only one still does. The only two models currently in production we are aware of, is made by Savage, and consists of one semi-auto rifle called the "A17", and a bolt action model called the Mark II. With that said, Ruger, T/C, Volquartsen, Marlin, Savage, Anschutz, and CZ all made rifles chambered in .17 HM2 at one time or another, and those firearms can be found on the used market today from time to time. Out of these discontinued models, plus the 2 Savage models still being made today, the Anschutz rifles chambered in .17 HM2 like this Model 1502 have proven to the be the best of them all in terms of accuracy, reliability, and resale value. As you can see from the pictures, this Anschutz rifle looks like-new and mint in almost every regard. The factory blue finish rates 99%, the action is still tight, the bore is immaculate, and the controls all still feel brand-new and crisp. The ONLY deductions that can be found on this rifle are a few scattered very-tiny little dings in the factory Walnut stock. There is one little tiny dinged-spot on BOTH sides of the buttstock, both located near the bottom of the butt-portion, just up from the keel, and both about halfway between the wrist and buttplate. The third tiny little dent/ding is on the left side of the stock about equal with the rear-edge of the magazine release button, about 1/4" of an inch up from the bottom edge when looking at the rifle from the left-side profile. These spots can be seen the best in pictures # 2, # 7, and # 14. You will notice immediately that none of these deductions really detract any appreciable amount from the exceptionally-clean and like-new overall look of the rifle. There is also no evidence at ALL that this rifle has even been fired since leaving the factory, but there is no way to know for sure. What we CAN say for sure, is that IF this rifle has been fired since leaving the factory, it certainly has not had more than 5 or 10 rounds in-total fired thru it at the VERY MOST! The bolt, the bolt's face, the chamber area, the bore of the barrel, and even the feedlips of the factory 5-round detachable magazine, SHOW ZERO WEAR OF ANY KIND! The mechanics are simply immaculate in this rifle, and the adjustable trigger in this Anschutz is exceptionally good for a factory trigger. We have ZERO doubt that this rifle will function just as good in every regard as it did the day it left the Anschutz factory, and it still has 99.9% of it's service life still in it. If you have been looking for the VERY BEST all-around rifle you can find in .17 Hornady Mach 2, THIS IS IT!!! It would be all but impossible to upgrade from this one in any respect.
