Marlin Model 1893, .30-30 - 26” OCTAGON, EXC BORE/RIFLING, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Marlin, c1908, .30-30, 7lbs. 12oz., LOP 13 1/4″ Serial Number: 387238 Here we have an interesting Marlin Model 1893 rifle with 26” octagon barrel, full magazine, with an excellent shiny bore that rates 9 out of 10 in condition. The barrel retains 98% factory blue, clear sharp lettering, NOT restored. The factory original wood is excellent with superb wood-to-metal fit, no cracks or repairs, some finish nicely added sometime in the past terminating in a carbine style buttplate as see on page 199 of Col. Brophy’s book on Marlin Firearms. The action has excellent mechanics and screws, with some case color remaining after somebody “cleaned” it up, leaving a pleasing grey mottled finish on the action and lever. The rifle top tang has the MODEL 1893 marking which had been phased out in 1905, with guns after that time period being marked “’93”. The serial number is 387238 which would be around 1907 or 1908 by the serial numbers listed in Brophy’s book. All in all a very clean rifle about 118 years old that somebody took care of and cherished. How many rifles from that era have nearly perfect bore with strong sharp rifling and no pitting? Few and far between and if you are going to shoot the gun (as you should!) it matters. Taking an overall look at the photos you will see perfect wood to metal fit, clean screws, excellent barrel blue…a rifle that has been loved and cared for for over a century. With similar care from future owners, this rifle will be taking deer in the next century, maybe by one of your kinfolk you pass it down to. See the specifications below. Thanks for looking!
