Description: MARLIN MODEL 1881 .45-70 OCTAGON RIFLE, #15XXX, MADE 1887. Excellent markings including the corrrect "45 GOVT" caliber designation on the 28" barrel top ahead of the receiver. The receiver still ratains good aged blue on the sides with heavy edge wear and top/bottom blue wear to gray. Barrel shows good aged and thinning blue with the mag tube mostly gray-brown with good blue in the protected upper areas. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and original Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Butt stock and forearm show normal wear with some light age cracks coming back from the forend cap and ahead of the receiver that are typical and minor. Correct smooth steel butt plate, tight action with strong safety half-cock. Bore is a little dark with strong rifling and scattered surface corrosion that looks to be partially leading. Should clean out better. A difficult frontier model to find especially in .45-70.
