FACTORY UPGRADED BUFFALO NEWTON 1916 IN .30 NEWTON #170
Description: Considering the age, this rifle is in amazing condition. Purchased in 1979, this rifle has been on display and never fired. The cheekpiece, engraving and double set triggers were factory upgrades and I would assume led to the final assembly by Emil Flues, stock by John Splitter and the engraving by J.J. Lankes or Lynn Hukes. Also at this time much of the barrel work was by Pope. The rifling is segmental. Newton, a retired attorney turned gunmaker, is considered the father of high velocity. The company had numerous problems and a fairly short life. This resulted in an extremely small number of rifles being produced. The estimat is between 3,000 and 4,000 with less than 30% being .30 Newton. There is slight wearing of the blueing near the muzzle and the photos show the minimal stock damage. The set trigger functions perfectly. ALL SERIAL NUMBERS (170) MATCH, STOCK, MAG ETC. Areal firearm conversation piece, both phyically and historically.
