Description: ENGRAVED Antique BOY/YOUTH Musket by BEURET FRERES Child Sized Cadet Smoothbore European .57 CAL Here we present an antique Boy-Sized Cadet Version of the Swiss Model 1842 Musket by Beuret Freres made circa the mid-1850s in Liege, Belgium. This scaled down musket marked "BEURET FRERES/A LIEGE" features a length and weight appropriate for about a 10 year old boy. This musket is engraved throughout, suggesting that this was not simply a practice implement at a school, but a gift to a son or grandson. The barrel is marked with "BF" vertically and "CADETS/CHAUXDEFONDS" on the left. La Chaux de Fonds is a Swiss city in the French speaking region of Romandie. "BF" marks are found on the lockplate ahead of the hammer, on the barrel bands, barrel, lower tang, and the buttplate. It features a brass fixed front sight mounted to the foremost of the three barrel bands and a rear notch sight. The full stock has a straight wrist with two bumps on the lower tang for additional grip. The overall condition is near fine. 90% of the blue finish remains with some small areas where rust has taken off the finish. The markings are clear. The engravings are in great shape. The stock is smooth and solid. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent, strong and crisp.
