GERMAN KAR 88 COMMISSION CARBINE - Surplus Model 9X57 Mauser
Description:
For sale, a beautiful German KAR 88 Commission Carbine - surplus model.
The Karabiner 88 was the carbine version of the German Gewehr 88 Rifle. It was issued principally to Imperial German cavalry units, between 1890 and 1909, when it was replaced in service by a carbine variant of the new model 1898 rifle.
Following the Treaty of Versailles, many surplus rifles subsequently found their way on to the commercial market, as did this one, which is chambered in 9x57 Mauser, a popular sporting cartridge of the early 1900's.
Bluing and metal finish are uniform and wonderful throughout - with no rust.
This is a beautiful well-shooting carbine, all-matching on the few parts that are numbered with a low serial number of 126. The receiver has been scrubbed of the original military crest/date.
It has the correct carbine rear sight. The front sight ears have been slightly modified, as is common with these commercial versions..
Stock is solid, very attractive with no cracks or major chips.
Barrel is 17.25". Bore is excellent - shiny with good rifling and no pitting.
Siderail interestingly reads "GEW 88" instead of KAR 88
It originally had sling swivels on the stock but the holes have been nicely sealed as shown in photos.
C&H Die set, 60 brass cases, and an original enbloc clip are included.
I have reloaded for it and it groups very well using .358" cast and jacketed bullets. It's quite comparable to.358 WCF.
Buffalo Arms also makes excellent ammo for it. I have one box of this loaded ammo I will offer to the carbine's buyer at a good price after the closes.
Purchase price includes shipping of the rifle, dies and brass. Local pick-up is available in NM.
This carbine has been modified since it's original manufacture, so a C&R or FFL transfer is required.. I am not an FFL, but will include a copy of my NMDL in with the rifle.
NOTE - If your FFL requires transfer from my FFL, please add $30 for my costs.
Payment preferred through USPS MO, certified or personal check. Discrete online payment is also available, if desired.
Sorry, no sales to AK/HI/CA/DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA/ New York City or Chicago, IL.
Please know your local laws and ask any questions before purchase. Thank you!
