John Blanche & Son .300 Rook Rifle with case
Description: For sale is a beautiful, well maintained (and perhaps rarely shot) John Blanche rook rifle with serial number 2225. This rifle has a 26” long octangle barrel in caliber .300 rook. This rifle was manufactured in London by Tranter who manufactured rook rifles for such firms as Holland, Lancaster, Blanche, and other. This rook rifle was retailed by Joseph Blanch & Son. This rifle has a side lever opening system which is considered easier to operate than an underlever while keeping the rifle on the shoulder. The stock is checkered walnut with a pistol grip and a slim splinter patterned forearm. The receiver is case colored and the barrel is rust blued and marked "J.BANCH & SON 29 GRACECHURCH ST LONDON" as well as "TRANTER'S FAVOURITE RIFLE". The top of the barrel is mattered and has a 3-leaf express sights. There are matching numbers observed on barrel, forearm and receiver. This rifle is housed in a russet colored canvas over wood travel case with retailers label internally. Red linen lined with partitions. Rifle remains in good condition very good bore with slight darkness in grooves. Frame retains 25% case colors and balance turning bright. Barrel retains generous amounts of factory blue balance turning plum. Butt stock is highly figured walnut and properly oil finished. and checkered. The forearm is remains excellent and has ebony tip. Case is typically worn and soiled but serviceable however has some shot damage. The box of 300 rook ammunition shownin the first picture is not included in this sale price.
