Daniel Fraser Boxlock Ejector Double Rifle in .303 British
Description:
SALE PENDING. SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED.
This Daniel Fraser double rifle in .303 British (Nitro Proved) is an exceptional example of the Scottish gunmaking craft. There’s something special about the quality of guns that come from Scotland, and the original Daniel Fraser firm in Edinburgh was recognized as perhaps consistently going one better than the collective goodness that the Scottish trade had produced in that era. Fraser double rifles are exceedingly rare (this is a pre-WWI example), and this fine example amazingly remains in immaculate condition.
The border-scrolled action opens crisply and closes tight on the face. Both triggers break cleanly. Checkering is sharp. The checkered horn butt plate is in excellent condition. Screws run north and south. The Circassian walnut stock has wonderful grain and finish. About 50% case colors. Barrel length is 26". Bores are excellent. The barrels are fitted with a quarter rib with 1 standing & 2 folding sights. LOP to the checkered horn butt is 14 5/8”. Weight is 8 lbs. 13 oz. While it’s not lavishly adorned with full-coverage engraving, it’s quality all the way and speaks to its practicality. This is a solid working rifle. Packaged in its original labeled leather case which is in good condition.
Roughly equivalent to our 30/06, using modern .303 British ammo makes this both a fun and practical gun that’s easy to shoot and effective for hunting plains game in Africa or whitetails and the like here at home. It’s a piece of history that can be used and enjoyed or kept in the safe for when good Frasers like this become even more valuable. Nothing else is a Fraser.
