ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE AND UNUSUAL BULL BARREL SHILOH SHARPS RIFLES, BIG TIMBER, MONTANA THAT I'VE SEEN
Description: ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE AND UNUSUAL BULL BARREL SHILOH SHARPS RIFLES, BIG TIMBER, MONTANA THAT I'VE SEEN (AND I'VE BEEN THEIR MAIN DEALER SINCE 1993!). This is an early Big Timber made rifle with serial number 6XXX and was probably made in the mid-1980s. The caliber is .45-90 and the 30" octagon heavy bull barrel puts this one on the scale at an honest 15 lbs. What's so unusual about this rifle is that the straight butt stock is of the long discontinued "Gemmer" style with deep crescent with toe plate on the bottom. The left side of the stock has a cheek piece with accent line and the extra fancy walnut with reddish/brown coloring has a AA finish. The butt plate is browned instead of case colored and matches the browned finish on the barrel, which was offered on the Gemmer model. Typically, the Gemmer had a forend that was "keyed" like on a Hawken muzzle loading half-stock rifle with wiping rod under the barrel held by two thimbles etc. This rifle was special ordered to have a Hartford style forend with pewter tip and no wiping rod. The screws are polished and fire blued, the receiver is fitted with double set triggers and the entire receiver, lever and hammer are attractively case colored. The rear barrel sight is the long, fancy "Hawken-Gemmer" style with elevator bar. The front sight is an MVA #111 globe which will accept inserts. The rear tang sight is a long rang vernier adjustable for windage and elevation. The receiver has the usual Shiloh Sharps markings and the only marking on the barrel is the iconic OLD RELIABLE in a rectangle stamping that was used on original Sharps rifles from about 1876 until 1881 and on early Shilohs of this vintage. Under the forend the barrel is marked 45-90 and is serial numbered to match the receiver as is the forend. I've never seen another Shiloh like this one and I assume it is a special order one-of-a-kind that could not be made today. Overall excellent condition showing very light use only. A chance to own a unique 15 lb Shiloh that is truly stunning! SOLD Rifle Caliber: .45-90 Sharps Manufacturer: SHILOH RIFLE Model: 1874 HARTFORD SPORT. Serial Number: 6XXX Barrel Length: 30" HEAVY OCT. Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT
