REMINGTON MODEL 1871 NEW YORK STATE CONTRACT ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE
Description: About 15,000 contract rifles were made in 1872 by Remington for the New York National Guard. The New York State model shares a unique trigger guard and internal mechanism with the 1871 Springfield contract rifle. These two rifles have a safety system built in that requires the hammer to be re-cocked after the breech block is closed. The parts in these trigger guards do not interchange with any other rolling block. Features a 36 inch round barrel chambered in 50-70 C.F. caliber with a very good bore. Original open sights. The NY State Hammer is significantly taller than other rolling blocks and is the most readily identifiable feature of this model. Metal is smooth with a dull dark gray patina. Markings in the metal are clear. Complete with sling swivels and a cleaning rod. Very good looking wood overall with the bumps and bruises from the last 150 years. The fit on the buttstock could benefit from some adjustment. Steel buttplate. Excellent mechanics. Nice historical gun!
