Rare Remington Rolling Block Creedmoor Long Range Rifle 44 Sharps
Description: I've read that only a few hundred of the original Long Range "Creedmoor" Rifles were manufactured by Remington c.1873-1890. They were considered one of the finest target rifles of the 19th century and among the best 19th century guns manufactured by Remington. The 32 7/8" round barrel is marked with the E. Remington & Sons and NY address on top and has a windage adjustable globe front sight with a spirit level (level glass is broken) and "44 S" marked on the bottom of the barrel as shown in photos (.44-77 Sharps). The frame has the patent markings on the left and a long range Vernier peep sight on the upper tang and an additional sight base mounted at the top/rear of stock for shooting in the prone position. Serial number "4205" is marked on the bottom tang and underneath the forearm, and the bottom of the pistol grip stock has the inset dark wood/horn which I have read is indicative of an original Creedmoor. The forearm is smooth and has a steel end cap, and the pistol grip stock has a checkered wrist, horn/ebony inlay as just noted, and a smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Also, underneath the forearm, "L.L. Hepburn" is stamped twice near the serial number. From doing some online research I believe this means that Hepburn inspected the barrel, but I'm happy to learn more from the rolling block experts. Condition is very good with much original case color present and original blue on the hammer and breach block mechanism. It looks like someone has added a coat of varnish to the stock at some point. Comes with a couple of suede covers for the front and rear sights and and a cheek pad. I've had a coupl eof questions about bore conditions and have added a few photos. Buyer pays shipping. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Remington Model: Rolling Block Long Range Creedmoor Serial Number: 4205 Barrel Length: 32.875” Condition: very good |
