WW2 Model of 1942 Remington Model 1903 Rifle in .30-06 Springfield w/ 1944 Dated U.S.Sling
** Attractive Honest Example **
Description: This is a very attractive Model of 1942 Remington Model 1903 .30-06 caliber rifle made for the United States Military during World War 2. It appears to have been issued during WW2 and then returned at some point to the U.S. Arsenal system, at which point it went thru an arsenal rebuild at Rock Island Arsenal. This rebuild likely took place sometime between WW2 and the start of the Korean War. It is an all-original gun as an U.S. arsenal-rework, with a mixture of both original Remington parts and Springfield small parts. It does not appear to have been altered in any way since the rebuild, and is comprised completely of period-correct U.S.G.I. parts. The barrel on this Remington is the original and correct barrel to the receiver, and is dated 6/42. We gauged the muzzle and throat for erosion and they measured a "1" at the muzzle and a "4" at the throat, which tells us that this rifle has been well cared-for and not actually fired too much during it's life. While the bore shows a little dark in the rifling grooves, the lands in the rifling are bright and sharp. We have no doubt that this Model 1903 will still shoot just as well today as it did in 1942. The finish on this Remington Model 1903 is a mixture of original parkerized and black oil-quench case hardened finishes, which all have a very consistent and attractive combat-used look to them. All of the parts show the same level of wear, and appear to have been together for a very long time. The stock is the factory original stock on this Remington, and it is in great shape overall. The straight-gripped and oil-finished American Walnut stock is free from any major damage, and outside of some minor handling/use marks in the wood, only has a small arsenal-completed toe repair that is nearly invisible. As you can see from the pictures, the stock has a great look to it, and still shows the original factory "RLB" inspector's stamp and U.S. Ordnance Wheel cartouche on the left side in addition to the "R.I.A. over FK" arsenal rebuild inspection cartouche. The original "circle P" cartouche is still visible on the bottom of the wrist as well. All of the stock hardware is intact on this Model 1903 and in good condition, including the Springfield-type checkered buttplate with a trap. All of the controls on this Model of 1942 Remington Model 1903 rifle are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth and turns into battery perfectly with no slop. This Model 1903 comes with an original WW2 vintage and 1944-datedsling with the correct flat buckle. If you have been looking for a good-looking combat-used U.S. Model 1903 rifle for your collection, this 1942 Remington Model 1903 would be an excellent choice. Not only will this rifle continue to be an excellent investment with proper care, but it could be shot and enjoyed without hurting it's value. While minty and pristine Model 1903's are certainly neat, there is really something to be said for a rifle like this one that has actually been issued and used, likely even in combat.
