Remington 788 .223 REM SOLD
Description: 1982 production Remington Model 788 rifle chambered for the .223 Remington cartridge. This moderately priced, bolt action rifle with a detachable magazine is commonly referred to as "Remington's budget tackdriver". It features a single-column detachable magazine holding 3 rounds and a nine lug rear-locking bolt. This design allows for the bolt handle only needing to lift 60 degrees on opening, giving more clearance for scopes compared to the 90 degrees required for the Model 700 and other traditional two-lug rifles. This rear-locking design leaves more metal around the barrel junction and requires less machining to manufacture. These characteristics combine to make the Remington 788 receiver more rigid and stronger than most, which increases its accuracy potential all while keeping costs low. This Remington Model 788 is in excellent condition with a few minor handling dings and safe marks. It's bore is nice and bright with sharp rifling throughout, and the action is slick and precise, turning into battery without any slop or grittiness. It has a handsome hardwood stock sporting a nice strong straight grain pattern throughout. This is an excellent rifle produced in the United States for the American hunter and shooter.
