Sharp DANISH Remington Rolling Block Model 1867
Description: Sharp DANISH Remington Rolling Block Model 1867 CENTER & RIMFIRE! Dated 1880 & Made in Copenhagen Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block Model 1867 Military Rifle, made in 1880 at the Kjobenhavns Toihuus Arsenal at Copenhagen for the Danish Army. Denmark was the first of a long list of countries that would adopt the Remington Rolling Block for their militaries, after Sam Remington’s exhibition trip to Europe in 1866. Norway and Sweden each followed suit. The appeal of the Rolling Block was its strong, simple action. Though repeating rifles were becoming more and more refined and prevalent in civilian circles, militaries all around the world were still married to the idea of large bore, single shot rifles. Denmark’s initial chambering was for a rimfire cartridge, but they soon adopted a centerfire cartridge. With tons of the older rimfire ammunition still around, modifications were performed so that the rifles could fire either centerfire or rimfire by simply backing out the screw on the left side of the breech block and putting the firing pin through the appropriate aperture. This specimen was manufactured in Denmark in 1880, having been licensed to do so by Remington and paying a royalty. It features a reversible firing pin for either centerfire or rimfire ammunition. There is a long bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel for mounting a long saber bayonet. The cleaning rod screws in tight in the channel. “KJOBENHAVNS TOIHUUS, 1880” is stamped into the receiver tang, which is the arsenal and year of manufacture. Crowned proof marks can be found throughout. The front sight is windage adjustable and the rear sight is a large folding leaf going out to an optimistic 2100 meters. The overall condition is near fine. Some original blue remains throughout, with a light patina making up the balance. The markings are deep and clear. The serial numbers match. The stock is solid, with some light handling marks. The bore is like new, with sharp rifling and bright surfaces. The action is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-3/8 inches in length. Caliber: 11.7x51R Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
