REMINGTON MODEL 30 EXPRESS VERY RARE 20" CARBINE VERSION WITH POLICE DEPARTMENT MARKINGS, .30-06 CALIBER

REMINGTON MODEL 30 EXPRESS VERY RARE 20" CARBINE VERSION WITH POLICE DEPARTMENT MARKINGS, .30-06 CALIBER, #13XXX, MADE 1921-1940. The Model 30 Express was Remington's first modern bolt action sporter (Not counting the early Remington Lee and Keene bolt action models). These were made using the old World War I 1917 actions with their distinctive "dog-leg" bolts and forward and back safety lever mounted behind the bolt. This example is the Model 30R carbine version which has a finger grooved and schnable forend with short 20" barrel. These are an extremely scarce  variation in an already seldom seen model.  Further, it is stamped "P.S.P.   D15" in the left side of the stock. This stands for Pennsylvania State Police with the D15 being a rack number or perhaps a badge number. I believe this is the 2nd or 3rd of these marked carbines I've seen in the last few decades and only a small handful of standard carbines that I've seen. The Model 30 Express rifle was manufactured just before scopes became popular and they were not drilled and tapped at the factory for scope bases. By the 1950s and 1960s when scopes became popular and common on sporting rifles, those Model 30s still in use often were drilled and tapped for scope mounting. At this time many were also fitted with recoil pads.  Finding an unaltered example is difficult. This one has the correct barrel band front sight, no rear  sight dovetail on the barrel and retains the original fully adjustable receiver sight. The left side of the barrel is marked "SPRINGFIELD .30 CAL. 1906" and the receiver is marked with the Remington name on the right side with "MODEL 30 EXPRESS" on the left side. Nearly all the lightly aged blue is intact on the barrel, floor plate and receiver with some thinning blue on the bottom of the trigger guard. along with some gray on the bolt knob and front sight barrel band. Bore is excellent. Wood is unaltered and shows only normal light handling with one very minor hairline crack coming back for an inch or so from the forend tip in the left side (you have to look for it to notice it). Still has the original steel butt plate. A great carbine with police markings made before World War II! You can just imagine this rifle riding in a police Model A Ford during the last days of the roaring Twenties and into the awful years of the Great  Depression.
