1968 Vintage Remington Nylon 66 Apache .22 Semi-Auto Rifle
** Unique Chrome & Black Variation!
** SOLD
Description: This Remington Nylon 66 "Apache" has no factory-applied serial number but is date coded on the barrel "AR" which translates to March of 1968, 8 months before the Gun Control Act of November 1968 mandated gun manufacturers to serial number all of their production regardless of caliber. The Nylon 66 was quite a futuristic looking rifle for it's time. It was introduced in 1959 and was produced until 1990. This semi-auto rimfire rifle featured a nylon composite stock and a stamped sheet metal receiver at a time where virtually everything else was machined steel with hardwood stocks. The Nylon 66 proved to be a success and quickly built a reputation for being light, reliable, accurate, and a lot of fun. During the course of production there were 5 model variations introduced with varying levels of production for each. This is the Mohawk model which featured a factory chrome plated receiver and barrel with a black nylon composite stock with white diamond shaped inlays in the forearm. While there were over 1 million Nylon 66s manufactured during the 31 year production run, only 221,000 were the Apache model. while all high-condition Nylon 66s are collectible today, the Apache is particularly sought-after. This Apache is in excellent condition overall. The black nylon composite stock and chrome plated barrel and receiver show some minor handling marks and scratches but nothing that takes much away from the clean appearance of this rifle. As you can see from the pictures, this is one good looking all-original and un-altered Apache. The bore in this Remington is minty and bright. There is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible in the bore whatsoever. All of the controls work perfectly on this rifle and the action is in perfect working order. If you have been looking for one of these futuristic looking vintage Remington rifles for your collection, here is your chance to get a very nice example.
