Remington Springfield M1903A3 ‘03A3 Rifle Made 1943
Description: This is a good example of the 03A3 produced in World War II. The receiver and barrel markings are intact. The bore is in great condition with visible, 4-groove rifling. The original finish is relatively thin. Some very minor rust is present on the floor plate. The Type C (pistol grip) stock has only a few minor dings. The barrel’s markings indicated the rifle was manufactured in June of 1943 and it is very likely that this rifle saw use in World War II rather than sitting in an arsenal somewhere. Barrel length is 24 inches standard, capacity 5+1. Chambered for the classic .30-06, the ’03 Springfield was one of the best bolt-action rifles of its time, competing with the Lee-Enfield (No.1 Mk III and later No.4 Mk I) and Mauser Model 1898 (Gewehr 98 and later K.98k) rifles. The 03 Springfield was a copy of the Mauser Model 98 albeit using the small ring of the previous Model 1896. The ring refers to the front of the receiver where the breech end of the barrel is threaded in. The outside diameter of the ring is smaller on the ’03 than the 98. Postwar, the ’03 became a popular civilian rifle being used in both its original military configuration and in sporterized form. Many ‘03s have been converted to other calibers such as the 35 Whelen or 300 Win Mag. This rifle still retains the original 30-06 chambering of course. Even in original military configuration, the ’03 is one of the most accurate bolt-actions out there. They were routinely used for 1000-yard competitions back in the day. If you are looking for a good shooting rifle, this would be a fine choice. SOLD Manufacturer: Remington Arms Co.
