Remington 1903 A4
Description: Up for sale is an all original early Remington Model 1903 A4 Sniper Rifle in great condition. The barrel and receiver date are 3-43. The rifle's serial number is 3410578, which falls into the correct range of 3407088 to 3427087 as specified on Remington Society. This rifle is in an almost unused condition. The bore shines bright with no issues. The barrel has never been fitted for a front sight, which is correct for this model. The bolt and front clamp/bayonet lug are stamped with an R. The receiver ring is correctly stamped on the sides with the US Remington Model 03-A3 on the left side and the serial number on the right side. This was designed to prevent the scope base from blocking the serial number and model number when it is mounted. The scope base is by Redfield, which is correct for this gun. The scope is an Alaskan A478, which was an approved and historically accurate model that was preferred over the Weaver 330 (i.e., clearer/larger optics and didn’t fog). In support of this claim, I have a letter dated 12/10/1942 from the Subcommittee on Small Arms to the Ordnance Committee that states that "the Weaver 330-C, Lyman Alaskan or any other rifle telescope meeting specifications set forth in paragraph 2c, of the discussion, be adopted for use by snipers." See a snippet of the letter in the images. The scope is in very fine condition. The optics are clear with no issues. The original bluing on the tube is in 100% condition. The rifle has all the original finish fully intact. The stock has all the original finish intact, including the appropriate cartouches/stamps. The wood is very pleasing to the eye. This is a very fine condition early Sniper Rifle for the military collector. Remington did not start making this model until early 1943. This rifle is one of the earliest ones that were produced. The rifle also comes with the correct and appropriate cleaning kit and sling. The rifle has never been reworked or refinished. This rifle would be an excellent addition to any collector's and/or shooter's collection. Feel free to ask any questions or for additional photos.
