Here is a very rare antique Remington 1878 Keene rifle chambered in 45-70. These rifles where a prototype produced for testing by the US army but not adopted and subsequently produced for commercial sale. They have a 24 inch barrel with a tube magazine underneath. Its a bolt action with a external hammer so it can easily be manually cocked. It has a ladder sight and a suprisingly comfortable English style straight stock. There are some cracks in the stock which is very common for this model but it remains solid. I have shot this rifle and it worked perfectly.
This gun is in good condition for its age. The stock does have a crack but it still feels solid and the finish is worn and has a patina but no pitting or rust. the action locks up good and the bore is wel worn and used. Thanks for looking!
