RARE REMINGTON Rolling Block w M1867 Pistol Action 1 of 1000; Military CADET RIFLE w/ NAVY INSPECTION MARKINGS
Description: RARE REMINGTON Rolling Block w M1867 Pistol Action 1 of 1000; Military CADET RIFLE w/ NAVY INSPECTION MARKINGS Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block Cadet Rifle with a Model 1867 Pistol Action, made in Ilion, New York. The receiver was made in the early 1870s, while the rifle was likely made in the 1880s to the early 1890s. It is a .50 caliber Remington Pistol Center Fire and a thumb latch activated Rolling Block. The Remington Rolling Block rifle is a breech-loading rifle that was produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms Company). The action was extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. The Remington Rolling Block had a sturdy, simple action that was relatively inexpensive, just what many governments wanted in the latter half of the 19th Century. They were popular with civilians as well. Along with the Sharps rifle it was one of two and 1880s. Civilian Remington rolling block rifles, and later surplus military rifles, became rifles probably used more than any other by the buffalo hunters who hunted the American bison herds in the 1870s very popular among hunters in Scandinavia, particularly for moose hunting, with ammunition for the rifles being commonly available on the civilian market into the 1920s-1930s. From Flayderman’s: In the late 1860s, Remington produced the first of its rolling block pistols, the 1865 Navy chambered in .50 caliber rimfire. These were modified to the 1867 Navy, chambered in .50 caliber centerfire, and all were government contracted for. They were all marked with the Navy inspection marks “P / FCW” on the right side of the frame. The left-over parts were made into the rifle marketed as the “Remington Cadet Rifle N0. 205” and intended for sale to military schools and cadet corps quasi-military boysanizations popular during that turn of the century era. The overall condition is good. The iron parts are dark with age with some light scaling. The markings are clear. The walnut furniture is fair. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action is strong. Here is a truly rare and interesting specimen from Remington! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 28 inches. Caliber: .50 Centerfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
