Newton Rifle Model 1916 30 U.S.G. 30-06 Lyman 48 Long tang

This is a Newton rifle Model 1916 in caliber 30 U.S.G. which is 30-06. It has the standard 24 inch barrel with a very good bore. It is serial numbered 3916 on the receiver, bolt and bolt sleeve and numbered 2619 in 6 other places. These mixed numbered rifles were assembled after Newton gave up control of the factory and were issued by the Reciever or Newton Arms CORP. It was probably made about 1918. About 16% of the Model 1916 were in 30-06 or about 640 rifles out of about 4000. This rifle has the proper Lyman Long Tang sight for this model although this sight is not original to this rifle. The aperature is also a replacement. The stock has a repaired crack in front of the trigger, a hairline crack behind the same area and a small crack in front of the magazine. It has was is probably the original front sight and the original 2 leaf rear sight. The double set trigger works well. See the pictures for the condition of the wood. The butt plate is 60% blue, the grip cap 80%, the barrel 60% see the left side behind the front sight and the right side mid barrel. The receiver is 85%, the trigger guard 90% and the floor plate 95%. This can be shipped as a Curio & Relic. Packing, shipping and insurance is $75
