New England Arms Handi Rifle Single Shot Caliber .270 Winchester
Description:
This rifle is in near new condition ready for a scope. It is 37 3/4 inches in overall length and weighs 7 pounds. I shot this rifle at most 20 times and I believe I was the first person to do so. The average bolt action is on average at or around 43 inches overall length, so this New England must be considered a short rifle or carbine. The classic Winchester 30-30 carbine is 37 ½ inches OL. If you wanted to make a super short carbine out of it, you could have a gunsmith cut 3 or 4 inches off the barrel and crown it of course..
Why single shot? True sportsman concerned about animal welfare and the environment pride themselves in making one shot kills. When you walk into hunting camp with a single shot rifle your saying without speaking “I know my rifle, I’ve practiced with it, I’ve sighted it in and I only need one shot to bring down my animal and don’t need a semi-automatic or even a bolt action.
The .270 Winchester cartridge is one of the best and most popular hunting cartridge in North America. One reason is it’s mild recoil. Another reason is cost of ammunition. Just before hunting season the big sporting goods stores will have a fall sale. You can count on three ammunition calibers to be on sale; 30-30, 30-06, .270 and not much else.
Gun Digest said this about the .270 Winchester. “Its flat trajectory and high velocity with 130 grain bullet at 3,140 fps makes hitting easier over long, difficult-to-estimate ranges. Thus, as a mule deer, sheep and goat cartridge it is all anyone could ask for. For larger and heavier game of the caribou, elk and moose species, Winchester loads a 150-gr. Power Point bullet to an increased muzzle velocity of 2,900 fps... The 100-gr load is excellent for varmints and is a good choice on antelope too.” Since this was written (1968) more effective bullets have been developed with greater downrange killing power making the .270 even better that ever as an all around hunting rifle for North America.
Buy this great New England single shot for only $340 plus shipping (around $50).. Depending on your location we will discuss cheapest and/or best way to ship it.
I have to charge $30 more if I cannot ship it direct to your FFL and have to pay my local FFL dealer to ship it to your FFL. If you have not bought a gun this way before, know that gun shops are usually happy to do this service as this is an easy source of revenue for them. It shouldn't cost more than $30. SOLD
