Description:
This Hawkens halfstock rifle is skillfully fitted and finished by Mike Sullivan. This percussion halfstock rifle is stocked in curly maple , with iron trim, including a patchbox. the famous Mountain Man Mariano Modena had a similar pathbox on his Hawken rifle. Assembled around a .54 caliber Rice tapered octagon 34'' barrel, this large caliber plains rifle will be ideal for large game hunting or silhoute match use. due to the tapered barrel this halfstock Plains rifle weighs 8.7 pounds. Trigger reach is 13-5/8'', with abount 3/8'' cast-off. Combined with the modest weight this rifle will fit a variety of shooters. Barrel is 1'' at breech and 7/8'' at muzzle, the bore is cut rifle with seven lands and square grooves with 1 turn in 66 inches, the barrrel, lock, trigger, butplate etc is finish in rust brown. R.E. Davis lock and double set triggers. Hooked breech allows the barrel to be easily dismounted for cleaning. the keys are captured to the stock to prevent loss. the curly maple stock is stained with nitric acid to a dark brown and finished with hand rubbed linseed oil to best display the figure. The forend is fitted with a polished pewter forend cap, and iron ramrod entry pipe.  The metal to wood is fitted to near perfection. The barrel is fitted with a nickel silver blade front sight soldered to a copper base in period fashion. the rear sight is a semi-buckhorn dovetailed 6'' ahead of the breech. I purchased the Hawkens new from Track of the Wolf, The condition is like new, with very little use. I shot only 14 rounds thru it. It's been a safe Queen for about a year. The percushsion cap nipple threads is 1/4-28. The nipple is Ted Cash SN-1, this nipple works good with RWS 1075 # 11 caps. This Hawkens was built the year 2023-2024. The wood grain of the stock and the hand rubbed linseed oil finish look's better in person than in some of the photo's. The rubbed linseed oil finish has a real deep look to it in person, it does not show very well in some of the photo's. The ramrod is 7/16 with 10-32 threads. I added a photo of the barrel bore.
