AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN M1867 Werndl-Holub Infantry Rifle
Description: AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN M1867 Werndl-Holub Infantry Rifle UNIQUE Rotating Breech Block Rifle Dated “1868” Here we present an antique M1867 Werndl-Holub Breech Loading Infantry Rifle, made in 1868 by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr, Austria. This single-shot breechloading rifle was adopted by the Austro-Hungarian army in 1867 after a close trial with the ubiquitous Remington Rolling Block Rifle. When it came time to choose, Emperor Franz Joseph selected the Austrian Werndl-Holub. It replaced the Wanzl breechloader conversion of the muzzle-loading Lorenz rifle. Josef Werndl and Karel Holub designed and patented this rifle with Werndl eventually buying out Holub. The feature that makes this rifle especially unique is the rotating breech block. While simple to use, it was still only a single-shot rifle and some have said that it lacked good extraction of fired cases. This specimen is unit marked on the top of the butt plate: “55. LS 1.B./1383.” The lock is dated “(1)868” under an Austrian eagle acceptance mark. The top of the receiver is marked “WERNDL” and the barrel is marked “St. 70 G.a.” The bottom of the butt stock is marked with several numbers. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear. The stock shows wear. The wrist is cracked but is stable. The bore is fine, bright and sharp. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-1/4 inches. Caliber: 11x42mm Rimmed Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $950 #6043 SOLD Antique: Yes |
