Description:
This offering is a beautiful example of the early war type 99. It has an intact Chrysanthmum which is kind of rare. It was manufactured in Nagoya Army Arsenl, probably in 1942 0r 43. It has the antiaircraft sight wings for aircraft moving at 150 miles an hour, the monopd and all the things a rifle of thi period had including the dust cover which wa a device for telling the US Mafines that you were there.. All the parts don't match but most do,f or instance the bolt was probably lost on Guadacanal. Manu little parts are not marked or the markings have been worn off. The 7.7 round has almost the exact same ballistic as the British .303 and is very close to the .308. The action was given a bad reputation from GIs trying to fire standard ammo through practice rifles---they had iron actions. Later during the Korean War, the army needed rifles and the had an enormous inventory of captured Japanese rifles. But they were hesitant because of the reputation so they tested them against the major bolt actiojn rifles. They blew up the Springfield, the Mauser, the Enfield, the MAS 36, the Moisin, et al, but they couldn't blow up the Arisaka. I load my own and even though my Arisakas are as old as I am, I load them a little heavy--the results are great! Anyway, this is one of the better Arisaks on the market. You're gonna love it! Oh, by the time I get a response to this I expect to have fired it a few times and should have a few hole grouped on paper so I can tell you where it hits.
