Available for Sale is a very nice looking German K98 Mauser. This rifle exhibits some of the best tiger striped walnut I have seen on a German Mauser. Most of the K98's had laminated wood, but a few were built from solid Walnut wood, and only a very few had beautiful Tiger Striped wood such as this example. This K98 was manufactured in 1940 and is coded on the receiver as "42", which means it came from one of the early original Mauser factories. "Mauser Werke A.G. Oberndorf". 42 is known as an early code for German Mausers.
There are stamped Eagle/Swastikas on the rifle. (See Pics)
This particular rifle, was captured and refinished by the Russians, in what is regarded as a huge miscalculation by the German forces during WWII.
The overall condition of this K98 is Very Good considering its interesting past after being captured by the Russians and then refinished and also matched using Russian serial numbers on the Receiver, Bolt, Barrel, Floorplate and the left side of the stock. The bore is in good condition with strong lands and grooves. There is some very slight frosting in the grooves. (See Pics) I have fired the rifle with the original sights, and it holds about a 3-4" group at 100 Yards using Remington Core-Lokt 170 grn ammo.
Will include target with rifle.
The bolt-action mechanism cycles very smoothly.
Included is a nice German Mauser sling in the pictures, as well as the cleaning rod.
This rifle has all milled barrel bands and floorplate. Later in the war, they began to use stamped parts to save time and money for their futile war effort.
The stock has been rubbed down with BLO, or Boiled Linseed Oil to preserve the beautiful 3D Tiger Striping that is so hard to find on German Mausers today. All of the original stock cartouches and stamps are still visible. Ex: DOT/H, & 8007
