Revolutionary War 2nd Model Brown Bess Musket
SALE PENDING
Description: Revolutionary War 2nd Model Brown Bess P1777 Musket. The iconic gun of the American Revolution. Overall standard length 58” featuring 42” smooth bore barrel and regulation 1777 pattern lock. Lock bears the correct “TOWER” mark, and GR Crown along with Broad Arrow government acceptance mark. The second ramrod pipe does not feature the Pratt’s Improvement “trumpet shape” which likely dates this musket as an earlier example of the pattern, and before 1778 when the improvement became common. In Erik Goldstein’s comprehensive work “The Brown Bess’” he discusses this pattern in detail writing, “By the end of the Revolution almost half of the 350,000 plus Short Land muskets procured by both the English and Irish establishments were variants of a pattern introduced in early 1777.” He continues, “Economic factors coupled with the slight improvement in functionality gave birth to this long standing and sturdy service musket.” Goldstein rates this model as “Scarce.” Provenance: Obtained directly from Mr Robert Nittolo whose collection now graces the museum at Fort Ticonderoga. I will provide a notarized letter attesting to the musket’s provenance. Here’s a rare chance to get an authentic Revolutionary War issued 2nd Model Brown Bess from a world famous collection at a very fair price! I take PayPal, as well as other forms of payment.
