Australian Martini-Henry Mk. III Rifle (New South Wales Marked)
Description: Serial #651, .577/.450, 33 1/4" barrel with a very good bore that has some dark freckling within the grooves. This rifle has an 1884 dated frame and has about traces of the original blue remaining, and the balance turned to an even, plum-brown patina with mild surface freckling, and pewter gray fading along the edges and projections. There is also some bright bayonet wear at the muzzle, and some further gray fading on the sides of the barrel bands. The receiver has crisp markings on the right side: “(crown) / VR / ENFIELD/ 1884 / (crown/arrow) / III / 1". Double arrow deaccession stamps are present on the left side of the receiver and barrel breech. The walnut buttstock and forend have numerous minor handling marks and blemishes in the armory reapplied oil finish, and the original Enfield cartouche and added double arrows are still visible on the right side of the butt. Further Australian issue stamps are present: “NSW / 508" (New South Wales). A correct iron ramrod is included, and the action is fully functional. This is a really handsome Martini-Henry with clear Australian markings. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: British Model: Martini Serial Number: 651 Caliber Info: .450 Gauge Info: .450 |
