Antique Springfield US Model 1896 Krag Rifle with 1901 Cartouche
Description: Serial #64256, .30-40 Krag, 30" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a little-used rifle that retains 90-92% of the original blue finish, with some gray fading at the muzzle, and some further fading along the high and exposed edges. The bolt retains a commensurate amount of the original armory bright finish, with some dark freckling present on the handle. The extractor has about 50-60% of the original bright nitre-blue remaining, and a dull plum-brown patina on the balance. The walnut stock and handguard is a replacement and was most likely used in the war and requiring it to be repaired. It only some minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the otherwise excellent original military oil finish, and the "ISA / 1901" cartouche and "P (in circle)" proof marking are crisp and clear. This is a splendid, lightly-used Krag, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
