"Scarce Remington Jenks U.S. Navy Carbine (AL7069)
Description: "Only 1,000 Jenks U.S. Navy carbines with the Maynard tape primer mechanism were manufactured by Remington in 1847 and 1848. This 54 caliber percussion breech loading carbine is often called the ""mule ear"" due to its distinctive side hammer. The 24"" barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel has approx. 95% of its brown finish with scattered light scratches toward the breech. The top of the chamber is marked with a P over W. JENKS over U,S,N, over RP over P over 1847 over CAST STEEL. The loading port is oval and the serial number is 831. The lock has visible case colors. It is marked REMINGTON'S over HERKIMER over N.Y. The two brass bands, trigger guard, and buttplate are fine with an even patina. The sling ring is present. The stock is fine with much original finish, light handling marks, and no cracks or chips. No cartouches are visible. The action functions properly. This very nice example of the scarce Remington Jenks carbine is ready for any carbine collection, Navy collection, or pre-Civil War collection. Price: $5,950.00 Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
