US Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle
Description: US Model 1898 Springfield Armory .30 Army (30-40) - Krag-Jorgensen Rifle Serial Number: 235302 This is a 3rd generation Model M1998 rifle produced in June/July 1900. Photos do a pretty good job of showing the overall condition, which seems better than most that I've seen available on internet anyway? The wood has minor age-appropriate scratches, dings, a little bruising and the metal does show some surface discoloration. The bore is very good for the age and I don’t see any rust, but there is very minor pitting. A stylized “P” inspection cartouche is on the bottom of the stock, just behind the trigger assembly, showing that the rifle passed the barrel overpressure testing. The: Model: “1898”, the Manufacturer: “Springfield Armory” & the Serial #: 259021, is clearly stamped on the left side of the receiver. The bayonet and scabbard are correct in good condition and the leather sling, that looks to me to be original to the rifle, is a real survivor. It was purchased in 1968. And has always been displayed / stored in an environmentally controlled location. If I can add to this description or if your spot an error in any of the above, please let me know. History Around 500,000 "Krags" in .30 Army (.30-40) caliber were produced at the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts from 1894 to 1904. There were at least nine different models of the American Krag and three of these models were rifles. The rifle models were identified by the years that major updates were incorporated. For the Krag-Jorgensen Rifle the model years are identified as: M1892 - M1896 & M1898), and this is a M1898 Model Rifle. This rifle is dated 1899 and a serial number look up indicates that it was produced in January 1900. The Krag–Jørgensen rifle was used in the Boxer Rebellion, the Spanish–American War and the Philippine–American War. About Two-thousand rifles were taken to France by the United States Army 10th–19th engineers (railway) during World War I Applies to all listings: In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition. Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. By a very experienced and professional Gunsmith. All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate for the age. They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since. The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master. For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation. I have fired a few. Limited to a total of <200 rounds. Most rifles have some oil build-up in the tight places. This is due to never over cleaning to maintain as much originality as possible. Firearms that are equipped for them have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches. Except where noted in the individual listings. There are no reproduction replacement parts in this collection! Some Government Arsenal Refurbish are included in this collection. And these have very clear markings per the individual listing. All firearms are offered as collectors’ items only and the seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm. A thorough inspection should be made by an experienced and reliable gunsmith or rangemaster before even considering firing any firearm the seller has listed. Specific descriptions related to a firearm are based on knowledge at the time of the listing and none are intentionally misrepresented. They are accurately described to the best of my ability and knowledge, please make your own determinations and contact me if you think there is an error in the description. A third party totally independent gunsmith is available for consultation / condition confirmation, at the buyer’s expense (usually <$50.). Or if you have a contact in the Tampa Bay Florida area, I’ll take it to them for inspection and evaluation. I am available to take phone calls between 9AM and 6PM most days. Abiding by and meeting any and all: City state or federal regulations regarding the purchase or owning of firearms or any item related to the firearm. Such as clips, magazines, bayonets and / or any item listed or sold with the firearm: Is the responsibility of the purchaser. To the best of my knowledge all are mechanically sound and complete, unless noted in a specific listing. To be clear this does not mean or imply that any listing is safe to fire. This should be confirmed by an independent qualified 3rd party firearms expert. The Buyer must have a valid Driver’s license and complete the Florida Individual Person, Firearm & Ammunition Transfer Disclosure Document It only takes about 5 minutes to complete. The up side is that this provides documentation for the Buyer that they purchased the rifle from an identified source. Because it has my complete contact information, DL and Carry Permit number on it. And a copy of this doc is shipped with the rifle. Except for Florida, Seller will only ship to an FFL License Holder for any and all transactions. The FFL Holder is required to provide a copy of the license or Identification number and proof of expiration date, prior to shipping, All taxes, receiving state fees, insurance, customs and / or any other non-firearm specific regulations specific regulations related to the purchase, is the responsibility of the Buyer or Buyers Representative. Thank you for your understanding and agreement with the above.
