For the advanced WWII and Arisaka collector we have an extremely rare North China Type 30 carbine. This Japanese designed weapon was produced in China at the Tientsin Arsenal for use by the Chinese puppet troops allied with Japan in WWII.
Francis C. Allan, author of several firearms collectors’ books has documented only sixty-eight (68) examples of this extremely rare carbine in the United States as of November, 2019. A copy of his book, 'The Early Arisaka's' will be included (currently unavailable and out of print).
These carbines are a variation of the Japanese Type 30 Arisaka with its distinctive “hook safety” used in several earlier conflicts. Noticeable differences In the North China Type 30 and the earlier Japanese Type 30 Arisaka are: Caliber is 8mm Mauser used in Chinese rifles instead of the Japanese 6.5 mm military round, also the North China carbine has a one piece wooden stock instead of the two piece glued together butt stocks found on the Arisaka cavalry carbines and there are no protective “ears” on the front sight of the Chinese carbine version.
The condition of this carbine is excellent. The build quality, fit and finish of this example are excellent and appear considerably better than others I have seen photos of on the internet. This gun has all matching numbers and is all original save for the reproduction cleaning rod. The bore is excellent and I can provided a picture if desired. This is a true collector’s gem that few will ever have the chance to own. As always have a competent gunsmith check for function and safety before firing.
