** SOLD ** WW2 French MAS Mle 1936 Rifle in 7.5 French Caliber **Very Unique**
Description: Presented for consideration is a unique MAS Mle 1936 rifle in 7.5 French caliber. The MAS Modèle 36 (also known as the Fusil à répétition 7 mm 5 M. 36) is a military bolt-action rifle. First adopted in 1936 by France and intended to replace the Berthier and Lebel series of service rifles, it saw service long past the World War II period. It was manufactured from late 1937 onward by Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne (MAS), one of several government-owned arms factories in France. Only 250,000 MAS-36 rifles were available to equip the French infantry during the Battle of France in 1940. Mass production finally caught up after World War II and MAS-36 rifles became widely used in service during the First Indochina War, the Algerian War and the Suez Crisis. Altogether, about 1.1 million MAS-36 rifles had been manufactured when production ceased in 1952. The 7.5×54mm French, 7.5 French, or 7.5 MAS (designated as the 7,5 × 54 MAS by the C.I.P.) is a rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge. It was developed by France as an update to the 7.5×57mm MAS mod. 1924 cartridge. It replaced the obsolete 8×50mmR Lebel round used during World War I. The 7.5×54mm French MAS has an uncommon 12.39 mm (0.488 in) breech and breechface diameter, and it has ballistics comparable to the 7.62×51mm NATO/.308 Winchester round. The 7.5 French cartridge is somewhat similar in appearance to the slightly longer and thicker 7.5×55mm Swiss GP11 round but users should never try to interchange the two rounds. This example is in very nice condition considering that it was an issued service rifle. The stock has some pressure marks and honest wear. Metal components have some wear and high edge wear. The barrel has a good bore and quite strong rifling. Sights are a hooded blade at front and a ladder style adjustable rear. This unique French bolt action military rifle would make a great addition to a collection of militaria.
