+++SOLD++++ 1893 Vintage Loewe Berlin Argentine Modelo 1891 Cavalry Carbine in 7.65 Argentine
** Non-Import, Intact Crest, & All-Matching!
Description: ++++SOLD++++ This is a very neat and interesting Argentine Modelo 1891 Cavalry Carbine in 7.65 Argentine caliber. Manufactured in 1893 by the Loewe firm in Berlin, Germany, this example is an antique with the serial number "A3318". Being German-made under contract with Argentina, these weapons were first-class in every way. They were very well-made, durable, reliable, and accurate. This little carbine is all-original, non-import marked, and unmolested from it's original configuration. The Argentine 1891 Cavalry carbine was built to arm the mounted Argentine Cavalry and featured an overall length of 37" inches with 17.63" inch barrel. Much like the full size rifle, this bolt-action repeater was chambered for the full-power 7.65 Argentine cartridge and had a 5 round non-detachable magazine that was topped off or loaded via the use of stripper clips. Being a cavalry weapon it lacked any method to attach a bayonet but instead had several ways in which it could be carried with a sling and it's small size made it ideal for cavalry work. This particular example certainly shows some wear and tear to the exterior indicating that it was issued and used by the Argentine Military. There is a great deal of original factory blue finish still on the metal but it shows numerous small handling marks, some small areas where surface rust has been removed, and some light general finish wear mainly on the high edges. The factory polished bolt is still bright and clean, free from any major spots, pitting, or stains. There is even a good deal of "fire blue" still showing on the left-side mounted bolt release. All of the factory markings are intact and 100% legible, and all of the serial numbered parts are original and matching including the stock, the barrel, the receiver, the bolt, and the magazine housing. What makes this gun particularly nice is the intact Argentine crest, as almost every example we have seen has had it removed. This was law with the Argentine military, none of their weapons were to be sold as surplus with the crest intact. As mentioned before, it is also not import marked in any way, indicating that this carbine was brought into the United States prior to 1968. The stock on this 1891 Cavalry Carbine is in good shape overall, free from any major damage, repairs, or serious cracks. The buttstock shows that large Argentine Military cartouche on the right side of the butt has been carved out of it, however all of the small proofs and inspection marks are still legible and intact. All of the original stock hardware is still in place on this carbine and in solid shape. The buttplate still shows a lot of bright blue finish, the keel-mounted sling point is still good, and the barrel band and original nosecap are still in place. While the barrel band is held in place with a bandspring, it is missing a screw. The upper handguard on this carbine is in great shape, tight to the gun and free from any major damage. The action on this carbine is in good working order, and the bolt locks into battery perfectly. All of the controls on this carbine are in good working order. The bore in this Cavalry Carbine is what we would consider rough. The original rifling is still visible from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle but there is numerous pitting throughout the barrel. It would probably still shoot just fine but as an antique we would suggest caution and have it checked by a gunsmith first. All in all, this is one really cool little carbine. It isn't often that we encounter these Argentine 1891 Cavalry Carbines in any condition, much less a non-import marked and all-matching original with an intact crest. This would be a great addition to any antique military weapons collection. As an antique, this can be shipped directly to the buyer, NO FFL needed.
