Springfield M1 Garand - M1D Sniper "Tribute" in 30-06 Caliber
** Excellent Condition ** SOLD
Description: This WW2 Springfield M1 Garand from the C.M.P. has been built into a M1D sniper with reproduction/newly made parts. The receiver is serial number 3643635 and was built in approximately April of 1945. The rifle likely saw some service at the end of World War 2 and then in the Korean war. It was government arsenal rebuilt at some point at least once during it's service life in the military. The rifle eventually ended up at the C.M.P. (Civilian Marksmanship Program) and was sold to someone who decided to turn it into an M1D sniper rifle. We do not know when this was done exactly but it was sometime in the last few years given the condition and barrel date. The standard military barrel was swapped out for a CBI M1D barrel (Criterion Barrel) which is dated 10/13. The barrel is in excellent condition with a minty bore. We gauged the barrel and it measures a ZERO at both the throat and the muzzle meaning it is brand new with no measurable wear. Given the look of the internals and the minty new condition of the bore in this rifle, it is doubtful that it has even been fired since being converted to an M1D configuration. The rifle is fitted with a G.I. pattern Walnut stock which is stamped with the C.M.P. cartouche on the left side. The stock is in like-new condition and is free from wear, cracks, or repairs. The scope and scope mount are high quality reproductions that fit perfectly. They are both true to the originals, and without a close-up examination could pass as the real thing. The scope has clear optics and the adjustments all work perfectly and in the same manner as the originals worked. This Springfield M1 Garand has also been fitted with a reproduction leather cheek pad that appears to be high quality and built like the originals. It has been laced tightly to the stock but has not been screwed to it, however, the grommets for using screws are there if the new owner so chooses. An original U.S. G.I. greensling is included that is from the Korean War period, as well as a cleaning kit and pull-thru jig in the trap compartment in the butt of the stock. If you have always wanted a U.S. M1 Garand sniper that you could actually take out and shoot without risking thousands of dollars, this tribute M1D would be a perfect choice. It should shoot as well or better than an original with the modern like-new barrel, and if something breaks you can replace it without risking historical value. This is one cool military sniper that will turn heads at the range!
