WW2 1944 IBM M1 Carbine
*** Beautiful 100% Original & Correct Late Production Example ***
Description: Wow, this is a spectacular all-original and 100% correct IBM M1 Carbine. IBM had only one block of M1 Carbine production from approximately August of 1943 to May of 1944, with the serial number range of 3,651,520 to 4,009,999. IBM or International Business Machines produced approx. 346,500 carbines which totaled only 5.7% of the total production from all of the various makers, making it one of the smaller producers and very desirable to collectors today. This particular M1 Carbine is serial number 3,900,170 and was manufactured in February or March of 1944. As mentioned before, it is a beautiful original example that appears to have had a very easy life. It was made during the last quarter of production for IBM and has a mixture of parts variations considered early, mid, and late production, which is correct for an IBM assembled gun. This M1 Carbine has a Type 2 barrel band, a round bolt, a push button safety, a Type 3 stamped adjustable rear sight, a 2-rivet handguard, and a low-wood stock. This gun has been taken down and each and every part checked to make sure they are original and correct, with the results recorded on the Carbine Collectors Club-generated data sheet. This sheet will be included with the sale of the gun. Every single part in this gun is correct when compared to data complied by the club and to the book Comprehensive Guide M1 Carbine by R.C. Larsen as well. The factory original parkerized finish on all of the metal parts is spectacular and rates 98%. You have to look very close to even find anything worthy of deducting 2%. The bore is minty and bright, with no pitting or erosion visible and nice sharp and prominent rifling from the throat to the muzzle. The original stock is in very good condition overall. It is free from any damage outside of some tiny handling marks and two very small cracks between the rear of the triggerguard and the recoil plate screw fitting on the bottom of the stock. There is a close-up picture of this area so you can see what I am describing. The G.I. that brought it home or someone else along the way appears to have lightly sanded the stock in places removing the original cartouche on the right side of the butt. The sling well however has not been sanded, and is stamped with a nice crisp and legible "BR-B" which identifies this stock as the correct stock for this carbine. Some other interesting marks on this stock are on the face of the pistol grip, the bottom of the pistol grip, and the keel of the butt just behind the pistol grip where rack numbers or unit numbers have been stamped and/or crossed out. "16" is stamped on the face of the grip and is intact, while the numbers "36" and "123" have been X'ed out in the other locations mentioned. There is a close picture of these as well. Our best interpretation of these numbers suggests that this carbine spent most of it's life in an arsenal overseas or here in the States until it was "liberated" by one of our soldiers. This IBM carbine comes with an original WW2 G.I.sling and a 15-rd WW2 G.I. contract mag marked K.I.. If you have been looking for a spectacular WW2 M1 Carbine for your collection this IBM example would be a superb choice. Not only is it beautiful, all-original, and all-correct, but it is made by one of the more interesting low-production manufacturers of these guns that went from making typewriters to M1 Carbines to personal computers! This IBM is certainly a collector grade piece. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: I.B.M.
