*** SOLD ** Quality Hardware M1 Carbine in .30 Carbine Caliber **Mfg 1943 - 1st Block**
Description: For consideration is a very nice Quality Hardware M1 .30 Carbine 1st block made in 1943. The M1 carbine (formally the United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1) is a lightweight semi-automatic carbine that was a standard firearm for the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The M1 carbine was produced in several variants and was widely used by paramilitary and police forces around the world, and also became a popular civilian firearm after World War II. Despite having a similar name and physical outward appearance, the M1 carbine is not a carbine version of the M1 Garand rifle. On July 1, 1925, the U.S. Army began using the current naming convention where the "M" is the designation for "Model" and the number represents the sequential development of equipment and weapons. Therefore, the "M1 carbine" was the first carbine developed under this system. M1 carbines were manufactured by several different companies and this particular example was made by Quality Hardware in 1943. This M1 carbine was part of the "1st block" of serial numbers. This particular example has had some rework done over the decades. Stock is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. The only observable wear of the stock has been caused by the sling buckle and it is minor (see photo 8). The 18" barrel has a good bore and retains strong rifling. The action is buttery smooth. This M1 Carbine is a very nice representative example of a wartime rifle and would make a strong start to a new collection. Sling, oiler and one magazine are included.
