Japanese KOISHIKAWA Arsenal SIAMESE Contract Type 46/66 Mauser Rifle C&R
Early 20th Century UPGRADED Siamese Infantry Rifle
Description: Japanese KOISHIKAWA Arsenal SIAMESE Contract Type 46/66 Mauser Rifle C&R Early 20th Century UPGRADED Siamese Infantry Rifle Here we present a C&R Japanese Koishikawa Arsenal made Siamese Contract Type 46/66 Mauser Rifle manufactured shortly after it was designed in 1903. The Koishikawa Arsenal, formally the Imperial Japanese Army Tokyo Arsenal, was an arsenal in the Koishikawa area of Tokyo. Facing the threat of Western colonial expansionism in Southeast Asia during the latter part of the 19th century, King Rama V of Siam, which is now Thailand, sought new weapons as part of a modernization program to ensure the kingdom's independence. After experiments with other rifles, the Siamese military decided to purchase a Mauser rifle based on the Gewehr 98 design as their principal service rifle. In 1923 the Siamese military decided to upgrade their ammunition with a spitzer bullet to improve range. The new cartridge was adopted as the Type 66. Existing Type 46 and Type 47 rifles were rechambered for the 8x52mm rimmed Type 66 round. The rear sight ramps were also ground down to reflect the flatter trajectory of the new ammunition. As a result, many of the Thai numbers inscribed on rear sight ramps are partially cut-off. No other changes were made to the rifles or carbines during the rechambering process. Following the rechambering, the rifles were redesignated as the Type 46/66 rifle and Type 47/66 carbine. Over the years, this rifle has erroneously been referred to as the “Type 45” rifle. This confusion was driven by the fact that this Type 46 rifle is chambered in “Type 45 8x50mm” ammunition. The overall condition is good. Strong action. A crudely made brass muzzle cap is included. Bright, nicely rifled bore. Although the stock has experienced some handling/storage wear from use, it remains in good shape with average dents and dings. Legible markings. Chakram marked receiver ring. Fully functioning dust cover. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 29 inches. Caliber: 8x52mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1350 #228046 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
