Gewehr 91 Artillery Carbine
Description: NEW PRICE! Extremely Rare Gewehr 91 Artillery Carbine Rifle For your consideration is an extremely hard-to-find German Gewehr 91 carbine. This Erfurt Gewehr 91 carbine rifle was produced in 1892 and is in excellent condition as you can see. The rifle has matching numbers (4142) on the receiver, trigger housing, barrel, front and mid band. The bolt does not match the rest of the rifle, but the bolt components do match each other. The rifle functions flawlessly and has a crisp bore and should be a good shooter with modern ammunition. A bit of history drawn from the internet: In 1888 the new German Infantry adopted a new smokeless caliber in 7.92 X 57mm which replaced the 10.4m large bore cartridge. The full-length infantry rifle developed for this cartridge was the M-1888 rifle, known as the "Commission Rifle." In that same year (1888) a shorter, and more handy, cavalry carbine, known as the Karabiner 88 (or Kar 88), was developed. Three years later, in 1891, an artillery carbine was adopted. This artillery carbine, called the Gewehr 91, was identical to the cavalry carbine, except it had a stacking hook below the nose cap (missing on this example). The Gewehr 91 is considerably more rare (only 65K produced) than the Kar 88 (225K produced) and are extremely hard to find, especially in this condition. The current example has very well-done/solid diagonal duffle cut indicating that the rifle most likely was brought back by a US serviceman probably after the First World War. Thus, there is no import mark. Please review the photos and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking! Dan This rifle is an antique and may be shipped directly to those who may legally own it. $799 $45 shipping SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: 7.92x57mm Mauser |
