US Model 1866 Springfield Trapdoor 50-70
Description: Original Antique US Springfield Model 1866 Springfield trapdoor 50-70 caliber also known as the second Allin conversion in attic found good condition. Approximately 25,000 2nd Allin rifles were made at Springfield armory from 1863 Springfield civil war muskets by relining the barrels with a 50 caliber sleeve and consructing the trapdoor breach block mechanism for loading and extraction of the cartridges. This one is in good original attic found condition. The dark walnut 3 band stock is in good condition. The metal has turned dark brown with scattered pitting. The functioning lock is marked US Springfield 1864 with the American eagle and the breach block is marked 1866 with the eagle head. The bore shows good rifling. The rife is complete with sling swivels and ramrod in uncleaned as found condition. The 1866 was the first 50-70 caliber Us army rifle made famous at the hayfield and Wagon box battles in Wyoming in1867. Please feel free to to contact me with any questions.
