Swiss Model 1817/42 Percussion Musket Geneva Marked
Description: Serial #7129, .69 Caliber, 42 1/2" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This was originally a Model 1817 flintlock musket and was converted to percussion in order to conform with the 1842 specs. The metal has an overall armory bright finish, with spots of dark freckling scattered throughout, as well as some darker mottling on the unmarked lockplate. Extensive proofs are present on the breech of the barrel, including a deeply struck Geneva coat of arms. The walnut stock is in very good shape with minor handling marks in the added varnish finish, and a visible, but illegible Swiss military cartouche on the right side of the butt. The musket comes with a correct, trumpet-head ramrod, and the action is tight and fully functional. This is a fine example of a seldom seen Swiss musket. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
