French Model 1777 Corrigé An IX Dragoon Musket
Description: NSN, .70 Caliber, 38" barrel with a fine bore that has light-moderate freckling near the muzzle. This is a handsome musket, a simplified and improved version of the original Model 1777 made during the first year of Louis XVIII’s reign, that was lightly cleaned to pewter gray with some scattered areas of dark freckling, most noticeably on the frizzen and lockplate. The markings are still legible, and the brass furniture has likewise been cleaned to a dull yellow-ochre patina. The walnut stock has a few scattered handling marks in the reapplied varnish finish, and there are numerous small insect holes in the buttstock. The lock is fully functional, although the “flint" is actually a painted wood filler block, and the original trumpet-head ramrod is included. Although officially designated “Dragoon muskets", these weapons were also issued to light infantry, light artillery, carbiniers, and mounted grenadiers. This example is in fine condition, and would make a piece for display, or to add to a collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: French Model: 1777 An IX Caliber Info: .70 Gauge Info: .70 |
