1870s ITALIAN Antique BRESCIA Model 1870 VETTERLI 10.4mm INFANTRY Carbine
Unconverted and Made in 1873 with BAYONET
Description: 1870s ITALIAN Antique BRESCIA Model 1870 VETTERLI 10.4mm INFANTRY Carbine Unconverted and Made in 1873 with BAYONET Here we present an antique Italian Vetterli Model 1870 Infantry Rifle, made in 1873 at the Brescia Arsenal in Brescia, Italy. The M1870 Vetterli was the Italian service rifle from 1870-1887, when it was gradually replaced with the M1870/87 Italian Vetterli-Vitali variant. The M1870 was a single-shot bolt action rifle chambered for the 10.4mm Vetterli centrefire cartridge, at first loaded with black powder and later with smokeless powder. The M1870 Italian Vetterli was based upon the M1870 Swiss Vetterli single-shot Cadet rifle, using a center-fire cartridge instead of the rim-fire cartridge of the M1869 Swiss Vetterli. Like several other European countries in the late 19th Century, Italy hardly seemed able to keep up with the latest and greatest firearms technology in the fierce arms race led by France and Germany. This rifle itself underwent 3 significant changes, hence the three different Model dates of Model 1870, Model 1870/87, and Model 1870/87/15, in its very long service life. It was originally made as a single shot bolt action rifle to begin with in the Model 1870. In 1887 it was made into a repeater with the installation of the Vitali magazine in the Model 1870/87, and finally being brought into the smokeless powder era with the rechambering into the 6.5 Carcano in the Model 1870/87/15. At various stages they were put into storage, then brought out again to fight. These rifles would have seen use by Italian troops in WWI, then in the hands of Italian colonial native troops in WWII. The barrel is marked “1873”, the year of production, “BRESCIA”, the place of manufacture, along with proof and acceptance markings. The overall condition is good. The action functions but the lifter is a bit sticky when the bolt is cycled. Bright bore. “1873” dated on the left barrel. This example sports a solid stock and a “circle CS” stamped onto the left side. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 17-1/2 inches. Caliber: 10.4mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1045 #210710 SOLD Antique: Yes |
