Here we present a C&R Turkish Ankara Model 1938 Military Rifle made in Ankara, Turkey circa 1943. Many of the Turkish rifles were lumped together into a group called the Model of 1938, which wasn’t a single model, but rather a common set of features. The designation isn’t even one that the Turks used, but rather is a designation that U.S. importers used to describe these rifles. It is assumed that the Turkish military took whatever rifles that they had and converted them to this design. The markings on this rifle are T.C. for Turkive Cumhuriveti, for Republic of Turkey. A.S.F.A. for Askari Fabrika, or Military Factory. ANK ARA for the city of manufacture. The most common of these rifles are the K. Kale marked rifles.

Though the Turks were neutral in World War II, they were courted by both the Allies and the Axis. But even with the courting, they stayed neutral to the end of the war. They gave refuge to both sides, giving refuge to the Germans that were escaping the Soviets in Bulgaria and Romania in 1944, and the Allies in Greece in late 1944 and early 1945.

The overall condition is good. Armory refurbished. The action is excellent. The bore is reflective with strong rifling. There is a small repair on the right side of the stock behind the fore most barrel band. Numbers match on the receiver, rear sight and magazine, they differ on the bolt. Import marked on the right side of the barrel.
