CZECH VZ/BRNO ARMS M1898/22 Bolt Action 8mm Mauser MILITARY Rifle C&R SLING Manufactured at Zbrojovka Brno, Czechoslovakia
Description: CZECH VZ/BRNO ARMS M1898/22 Bolt Action 8mm Mauser MILITARY Rifle C&R SLING Manufactured at Zbrojovka Brno, Czechoslovakia Here we present a C&R Czech Vz/Brno Arms Model 1898/22 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle made circa 1923 in Brno, Czechoslovakia. The Vz. 1898/22 is a Czechoslovakia designed, full-sized, bolt-action rifle, designed and produced after the close of World War I. It replaced the Gewehr 98 rifles purchased from Germany after the Treaty of Versailles. The production life on these rifles was fairly short, quickly being replaced by the shorter Vz. 24, and were sold to various other nations, most notably Iran and Turkey, where they remained in service to World War II era and beyond. When Czechoslovakia was founded in 1918, they immediately began planning to establish and arm their own military. In 1922, it was chosen to build a derivative of the Mexican Mauser 1912. It was known as the Vz. 1898/22. The Czechoslovak military was particularly picky about the quality of their new service rifles, and only adopted a small number of them into their own military service. Many Model 98/22 rifles displayed a slightly curved stamp on the receiver, displaying the words "?S.ST/ZBROJOVKA/BRNO", translating roughly into "Czechoslovak Armory of Brno." Such Czech service rifles were stamped with a E-22, or E-23 stamp, usually on the side of the receiver. (The - being a stand in for the Czechoslovak lion typical of Czech military proof markings) As mentioned above, the rifles that were not adopted were sold in commission to either Iran, Turkey, or on the public market. These rifles, as with any Czechoslovak rifle, will have a (Z) stamp on most metal pieces of the rifle Zbrojovka Brno was a Czech state-owned armament factory and was a maker of small arms, light artillery, and motor vehicles in Brno, Czechoslovakia. During the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, Zbrojovka Brno produced weapons for the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS. In 1944, the factory was severely damaged in the bombing of Brno and was not rebuilt until after liberation by the allies. Overall the condition is fine. Excellent action. The bore is bright with less than average wear. Sharp markings. Good leather sling. The cleaning rod is absent. This example has been refinished. Own the original!
