Antique WORLD WAR I and II Era TURKISH ANKARA M1890/29 8mm MAUSER Rifle
1939 Rework Dated Turkish Military INFANTRY Rifle
Description: Antique WORLD WAR I and II Era TURKISH ANKARA M1890/29 8mm MAUSER Rifle 1939 Rework Dated Turkish Military INFANTRY Rifle Here we present an antique Turkish Ankara Model 1890/29 Military Rifle made in Ankara, Turkey, manufactured circa the early 1890s and reworked in 1939. In 1890, Mauser developed his rifles to feature a solid receiver bridge and front locking lugs. More importantly, he introduced his clip-loading system paired with a single stack magazine, and his new 7.65mm cartridge. This system was adopted by Belgium, the Ottomans, and later became very popular in South America. The Turkish authorities decided this was the rifle they would adopt and ordered stocks of the “Rifle Model 1890”, eventually ending up with somewhere around 280,000 total. The Turkish Model 1890 is very similar to the Belgian 1889, although lacking its distinct barrel jacket. Unmodified Model 1890s will still be chambered in 7.65mm. This was the service rifle for the Turkish military during World War I under the flag of the Ottoman Empire. This rifle underwent conversion as did almost all Turkish rifles in the 30's to standardize on the 8mm Mauser caliber and the M1938 Mauser style of rifle. This rifle was originally in 7.65x53mm Mauser like its predecessor the Model 1890 Mauer. To fit the 8mm Mauser caliber into a shorter small ring receiver, they simply milled a cut in the top of the receiver to accommodate the longer cartridge and either re-bored or re-barreled the rifles. The Turks also liked to stamp the crescent moon symbol multiple places on the gun. Though the Turks were neutral in World War II, they were courted by both the Allies and the Axis. But even with the courting, they stayed neutral to the end of the war. They gave refuge to both sides, giving refuge to the Germans that were escaping the Soviets in Bulgaria and Romania in 1944, and the Allies in Greece in late 1944 and early 1945. The overall condition is good. Robust action. The bore is bright. Solid stock with less than average wear. Mixed numbers. Markings are legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29 inches. Caliber: 8mm Mauser Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
