Description: SALE PENDING Pre war Mauser 98 Sporterized By "Waffen Bock" in Frankfurt/M Germany, with a rare C.P.Goerz claw mounted scope. The company "Waffen-Bock" is still in existance in Frankfurt, and has been operating since 1897. The scope is an added bonus, with clear, post and crosshair reticle. "C. P. Goerz was founded in 1886 by Carl Paul Goerz. Originally, it made geometrical drawing instruments for schools. From 1888 it made cameras and lenses. During the First World War, Goerz's main production was for the German and Austrian military. Goerz is known primarily for Anschuetz strut-folding cameras, Dagor lenses and Tengor and Tenax cameras, later continued by Zeiss Ikon. C P Goertz also made a series of telescopic sights for sporting rifles that saw some use during the shortage of military sniping rifles experienced during the early stages of the trench warfare that was to characterise much of World War I." (Wikipedia) Whatever this rifle experienced, it didn't see much trench use, if any. It is in amazing condition. The rifle markings (very few) indicate pre-WW1.The barrel is original military, and shows signs of corrosive ammo. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. It shows some pitting, but rifling is strong and it shoots fine. The claw mounted scope is precise and snaps in place tight and solid.
