The only real flaw with this gun is I was an idiot and let someone ( turns out a fellow idiot) who said they could inlet a Timney Tigger Deluxe and he did not hear the "Deluxe part". He took out way too much wood. Saftey works fine and a couple smithies have said the extra room can be filled and either inlet or beded. I have never shot the gun ever since I bought it I don't know how long ago. Also some folks wanted to see it in the Archangel stock so have included two. That said:
Up for sale is an Original Herters XK3 Mauser in 257 Bob. This gun was/is a safe queen, if it was shot at all it was shot/used very little, I have not shot the rifle. The XK3 was produced from approximately late '50s to1964-'65 and replaced by the J-9 and U-9 (Yugoslavian and BSA actions). The XK3 actions were imported from Germany and the early ones, such as this one, were assembled in US, with Douglas barrels and a variety of stock makers. This is the basic, well known high cheek piece simple hunting stocks
The 23.5" Douglas barrel's bluing is pristine except for a 1 sqcm of prior rust with minor pitting on underside of the barrel where it touched the wood of the stock (see Pics). The barrel channel on the stock has been relieved and the barrel is now completel free-floated back to about 1.5" from the action at it's orriginal action bedding. The Archanagel stock fits well and I was surprised how solid it is and would make a great bench or target rifle. The 1:10 twist barrel bore looks like it was cut yesteday and it shines like a mirror. As the pics will show the action too is almost pristine, the bolt handle has not been altered. The original butt pad looks brand new. There is no rust anywhere except as discribed. The original stock has a hand rubbed oil finish and except for the issues of inletting described above, there are no scratches and only a few very light handling marks. The blued drop magazine bottom metal is in excelent condition except for a 2mm mark where the floor plate locks in place. Currently it sports a new Timney Deluxe trigger with safety (which must be engaged to "safety on" AFTER cocking) that was set at the factory at 1.5lbs.
The original trigger and parts are included with the sale. Also included are: 1" original scope rings that thread into two of the 4 tapped screw holes on top of the action are included.
