German WW2 1943 "bnz" Steyr K98 Mauser Rifle in 8x57mm Mauser
** Attractive & Clean Example ** SOLD
Description: If you have been looking for a nice clean example of Nazi Germany's K98 Mauser main battle rifle for your collection or to take out and shoot, here it is. This non-import K98 was certainly a G.I. bring-back trophy rifle originally, and has a lot of eye-appeal in addition to an excellent bore. It was manufactured by the Steyr-Daimler-Puch firm in 1943 for the German Military. At that time their code was "bnz", which was an attempt to hide the rifle's origin from the Allies if it fell into their hands. This K98 is not an all-matching gun but has a large number of original numbers-matching parts and a bolt that is all-matching to itself. The finishes on all of the metal parts appear to be original, with varying degrees of wear and patina visible. As you can see from the pictures, it is an attractive K98 that has a combat-used look to it. The bore in this Steyr K98 is in excellent condition overall. The bore is nice and bright, and the rifling is still strong and sharp from the throat to the muzzle. There is no visible erosion, pitting, or damage that would prevent this rifle from being a superb shooter. The stock on this K98 is an original "red glue" laminate in very good condition. It is free from any cracks, chipping, major damage, or repairs, and it is 100% solid. The wood shows some minor handling marks and has been lightly sanded at some point, which caused the original factory cartouches to be faint or illegible. There is a close-up picture of the right side of the butt which shows the original "Eagle H" cartouche which is faint but still visible. The "Eagle H" stamp was the German Military's acceptance stamp approving the rifle for "Heer" (Army) service. All of the original stock hardware is intact and in good condition, however the cleaning rod appears to be a reproduction replacement. All of the controls on this K98 are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth, precise, and perfectly in headspace. The bolt turns into battery nice and tight, and the original 2-stage trigger breaks nicely with a light pull without any excessive weight or grit. This Steyr K98 comes with a vintage leather military sling that is very high-quality and looks just like a WW2 German-made sling, but might be Czech or some other origin.
